Smith-Vaniz 50th Wedding Anniversary | Sharon, MS

It was September 1, 1965. He and his high school girlfriend had recently broken up. Here he was at a university rush party. Stag. He wandered out by the pool seeking solitude. Little did he know that this would be the time. The place. Then he saw her. This seemingly chance meeting led to a date. The date began a relationship. Three years later in the summer of 1965 the said “I do” and made the commitment that would last a lifetime. Here we are fifty years later on the family farm celebrating the YES Larry and Jan Smith-Vaniz gave to one another and to the Lord above. Their YES has stood the test of time, and they are stronger now than ever before.

“So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:6

What an honor to be invited in to capture the intimate moments of this celebration! It was an evening spent looking at pictures and remembering times gone by. The good times. The hard times. The wisdom of walking through both, and choosing to continue to say yes every step of the way. The siblings with nearly 200 years of marriage experience between them, the childhood friends who are closer now than ever, the children, grandchildren, and cousins. It was more than a family reunion, it was a community reunion. Looking at pictures and remembering times gone by. The good times. The hard times. The wisdom of walking through both, and choosing to continue to say yes every step of the way. So much wisdom gathered under the roof of this barn!

I love to pray over the people in each photograph as I edit. With worship music playing I have prayed fervently over this family… and the Lord has so graciously spoken to me of the generational blessings that Mr. Larry and Mrs. Jan are already passing down to their children and grandchildren. Enjoy the memories. And continue to savor the moments that will become the memories in future days.
