A Multi Location Engagement Session

Mississippi Fall Engagement

Rachel + Luke’s multi location engagement session was SO MUCH FUN!! This was Tara’s second engagement session to capture for MLP. I went along as a coach, but let me tell you. She did NOT need me! My girl Tara hit the ball out of the park with this gorgeous engagement session!! I am so thankful she is on my team!!

Mississippi Engagement Session

How they met.

When I asked Rachel how they met, she replied, “Wellll….it came as quite a shock to both of us, but our initial interaction was through a dating app. We quickly forewent the app and just went with the old fashioned exchanging of phone numbers. I had recently been to San Francisco, CA for the first time, and he had recently moved home from San Francisco. We also knew a lot of mutual people. Our first date was to see Jim Gaffigan (one of my favorite comedians) at the Brandon Amphitheater. Hands down, the best first date I’ve ever been on. It was fun, effortless…we immediately had chemistry and a connection. We talked about big topics, and it wasn’t weird or awkward. All those things aligned. It didn’t take but a couple dates for us to realize that this was something real and serious. By about the 2-3 week mark, it was official, and the families knew. By 4 weeks, we’d said “I love yous”, and the rest is kinda history.”

How he proposed.

Let me tell you…he went above and beyond. We had just gotten back into town from a beach trip with my family (where I thought he might possibly pop the question). It was a Monday, and I was supposed to work that night. I noticed he was being a little chattier than usual for a work day, but I just chalked it up to maybe he was missing me after being together for a week.

Around mid-afternoon, I got a text from my charge nurse at work that I might not be needed that night due to low census. I told Luke, and he’s literally never been so interested in the fact that I might get canceled lol. He suggested that if I got canceled, we should “continue the beach trend” and go to a nice seafood dinner. Very nice but also very unusual for us to do on a Monday night.

I ended up falling asleep in “prep” for possibly having to work, and I think that about caused Luke to have a heart attack. He was texting and calling me, and eventually got my roommate and her dog involved to “naturally” wake me up. I was awoken by Lindsey’s dog scratching on my door (something he’s never done in the year+ we lived together – turns out it was some assisted scratching from Lindsey haha.) When I woke up, I was canceled from work, and Luke was telling me to get ready to go to dinner.

I got ready, he picked me up, and we headed to what I was told was Bonefish Grill (I’m not super familiar with Madison). I don’t really pay a lot of attention when I’m the passenger seat going somewhere, but I did notice that we had driven past the usual turn onto Main St. and kinda come around the back way onto Main St. – something that I thought was odd, but I just went with it.

We pulled into the parking lot of Madison Methodist church, and Luke started to get out of the truck, so I said, “What are we doing here?” His response was a coy, “I just gotta talk to you about something.” We walked to a bench in their outdoor courtyard. There were flowers set up all around, and we sat on the bench. He started telling me about how this is where his parents got married, and he wanted to do that with me. 🙂 I’ll keep the rest of his speech to myself, but he ended up on one knee and asking me to marry him! Of course, I said yes, and then a photographer came from around the corner and snapped several pics for us and even caught the proposal.

Afterwards, Luke said we were now actually headed to dinner, but it was at Table 100. (The whole Bonefish Grill thing was just a ruse to get us to Madison.) I thought the surprises were over, but when we got to the restaurant, we were escorted to a room in the back where both of our immediate families were waiting to celebrate with us! (And that’s no small feat…I’m one of five kids, and Luke’s brother and his fiancee live in Dallas.) He did an incredible job, and as if the proposal itself wasn’t enough, he gave me the most special day! 🙂

engagement session

My prayer for you.

Rachel + Luke, I have prayed for you as I edited the images from your session. The word that keeps coming to my mind as I pray is “steadfast.”

Steadfast: adjective; resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.

Be steadfast in your pursuit of Jesus. Be steadfast in your pursuit of one another. Be steadfast in your obedience to Him. He will lead you best.

Fall Natchez Trace Engagement Session

Fall engagement session

Alexia + Hunter’s Natchez Trace Engagement Session

There are SO MANY reasons why I am excited to blog this fall Natchez Trace engagement session!! First, Alexia + Hunter are the the sweetest and most fun couple ever! Second, my associate photographer Tara shot this session! I was there as a second photographer just to back her up on her first engagement session with me. When I uploaded the images from both of our memory cards, I had to look at the metadata to know whose images were whose!! I love how Tara is able to match my style seamlessly.

Even though Tara will be the photographing Alexia + Hunter’s wedding day, I still am still able to get to know my amazing Meridith Lee couples! I loved “meeting” Alexia + Hunter during their Zoom consult, and it was even more fun to spend time with them as a second photographer at their engagement session. While I will only be second shooting a handful of engagement sessions with Tara, investing in a relationship with all Meridith Lee couples will remain a priority! Helping my brides plan all the details of their perfect day, and supporting my couples with prayer and encouragement will always be a big part of the Meridith Lee Wedding Experience!

How they met…

When I asked Alexia how they met, she replied “We met at Mississippi College, mostly through FCA lead team! He played baseball and I played softball. We were actually both short-stops.. ha! We met sophomore year and were very good friends for about a year and a half before we started dating! Hunter jokes a lot about me putting him in the friend-zone 🙈”

How He proposed…

He told me we had a wedding to go to in Columbus for one their family friends. They made it very believable – there actually was a wedding so that helped! There were too many of us to fit in one car, so Hunter and I drove separately. Turns out, we turn into one of his family friends house where there were rows of sunflowers that Hunter had planted himself!!! He planted them 3 months before! I love sunflowers and we always try to find sunflower fields, so I was absolutely impressed. He told me he had planted them for one reason, and got down on one need to ask me to marry him! It was the most perfect day!

My Prayer For You!

As I edited these images, I have prayed for you and your future marriage. The verse that keeps coming to my mind is 1 Corinthians 16:14. “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” This is such a key to all relationships, but especially marriage. I pray that you will not allow pride into your relationship, but that you will stay humble and patient with one another, considering one another’s needs above your own. I pray that you will grow in your love for one another as you draw closer to Jesus.

It is such an honor to know you and pray with you through this season! And I hope you love these images from your engagement session as much as I do!!

A Starkville Engagement Session

Starkville Engagement Session

Peyton & Morgan’s Starkville Engagement Session was so much fun to capture last week! I first met Peyton as a bridesmaid in Mr & Mrs Grady’s July 2020 Wedding! Having a former bridesmaid choose me to capture their own memories is extra special!! I feel like we start off with an extra special bond that carries over from our previous experience together!

We prayed away the rain from hurricane Delta and moved their session to earlier in the day. The idea of having to postpone my time with Peyton & Morgan was just not ok! I am so thankful they were willing to be flexible with the time and trusted me to work around the weather! I could not be more pleased with the results!

How they met…

When I asked how they met, Morgan replied, “We matched on tinder and started chatting. I didn’t know how it was going to go, but we first hung out at her apartment watch MSU football. Peytons dog attacked me and knocked over my sweet tea but we had a wonderful time.”

How he proposed…

Peyton shared, “We were moving into our new home and he said we were going to a dinner that night to celebrate our new house. During the dinner he got someone to play marry me by train over a speaker and the ring was delivered out where he popped the question.”

My prayer for you…

Peyton & Morgan, I have prayed for you as I have edited the images from your Starkville engagement session. Our time together was filled with joy and laughter! I am reminded that the JOY of the LORD is your STRENGTH! Keep your eyes on Jesus, and keep laughing together! Laughter is a powerful weapon!!

I hope you love these images as much as I do!!

An Engagement Session at Reunion Golf & Country Club

Reunion Engagement Session

An engagement session with a Meridith Lee Associate Photographer!

To say that I am excited about growing my associate photographer program is a huge understatement! And this engagement session at Reunion is such a joy to share on the blog today!!

How they met…

When I asked Rachel how she and Brennan met, she shared:

We met during my freshman year and Brennan’s sophomore year at MSU. The guys in my friend group from my dormitory were friends with Brennan through their fraternity, BYX. The friend group would frequently hang out at Brennan’s apartment and that is where he and I became close. I would go to Brennan for advice and he would listen no matter what the subject of my rantings was. We talked throughout that summer. We grew together over the fall semester of 2017 until he asked me to be his girlfriend on December 1.

How he proposed…

After over 2 years of dating and many talks about the future and marriage, I knew a proposal was coming but he managed to surprise me. My best friend and now maid of honor, Amanda, told me she needed to practice taking graduation pictures. So I agreed and threw on a cute outfit, some makeup, and some dry shampoo. We met at the Chapel of Memories on MSU’s campus and started playing around taking pictures though I did think it was weird she was taking a lot of pictures from behind. We moved to the Junction and took all of the typical pictures: with the bulldog, in front of the jumbotron, with the other bulldog. Then, she wanted to go across the road to the big field. She had me face the stadium and hold my cowbell above my head then told me to turn around.

Brennan was standing there dressed up and holding the dried flowers from the bouquet I caught at the last wedding we went to, a small note, and a conspicuous little box. I was totally shocked to the point that somehow I dropped my cowbell. He walked up to me, handed me the flowers, and read his note though I do not remember a single word of it. By this point I was apparently hyperventilating, so he very calmly said “Are you ready?” He got down on one knee, said my full name and asked me to marry him.

Amanda was still taking pictures and his sister Emma, the other maid of honor, was also hiding taking pictures. We took a whole bunch of us after he proposed. Then, we went to eat lunch at Central Station Grill where my parents, his parents, and my brother and his family were waiting to have a celebratory lunch together.

Prayer

Rachel & Brennan, I have loved getting to know you via Zoom as we have talked about wedding plans! I have also loved praying over you as I edited the images from your engagement session!!

As I pray for you, the word UNITY keeps coming to my mind. I feel that God is going to use you to bring greater unity in the Body of Christ! Walking in unity with Christ and one another in marriage is key to advancing the Kingdom of Heaven!!

Rachel & Brennan, I hope you love the images from your engagement session at Reunion as much as I do!!

Livingston Engagement Session | Haley & Josh

Chapel of Livingston Mississippi Engagement Session

I get to work with the most amazing couples, and Haley and Josh are no exception! We had the best time getting to know each other on Friday at their Town of Livingston engagement session!!

If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times. Engagement session are one of my favorite parts of the Meridith Lee Wedding Experience! Not only do I get to coach my couples through my posing system without the pressure and time crunch of a wedding day, but it gives me a chance to get to know them. I want to show up on your wedding day. as a friend who celebrates with you! And I feel like that mission was accomplish on Friday as Haley, Josh and I shared stories and had fun!

Haley and Josh wanted to include their golden retriever Molly is a few of their images. Molly was an absolute rock star dog model!! I love how these first family pictures turned out!!

How they met…

I asked Haley to tell me about how she and Josh first met. I just love their story!!

Josh and I actually met in our youth group at church my junior year of high school and his senior year. I invited him to come play ultimate frisbee with my friend group one Sunday night. He texted me that night and we became best friends! No feelings, just friends. For a whole year, we endured so many questions of “why aren’t y’all dating?” or “Do y’all like each other?” and every answer was the same… “We’re just friends.”

A year into our friendship, he asked me to go to prom and that’s where the feelings began! A few months later he asked me to be his girlfriend. We are 4 years into this thing and we are so excited for the adventures ahead!

How he proposed…

When I asked how he proposed, Haley shared…

The proposal was everything I could have ever imagined! A full day of events that led to the special moment. It started with lunch after church with my whole family, then coming home to flowers and a letter from Josh on my dresser.

My dad then took me to feed the ducks at a local lake (a place very special to me and my grandfather who just passed away) and he gave me the whole spill of how he has prayed for us, etc. My family is really special to me so having their prayers and blessings were just what I needed! Dad then dropped me off at the nail salon, where I met up with my mom and grandmother to get my nails done.

Then Josh picked me up and took me to a pecan orchard that he always went to as a kid and had the full set up there!! It was such a special moment for us!

My Prayer For You

Haley and Josh, as I have edited the images from your engagement session, I have prayed for you. The word that keeps coming to my mind is LEGACY. Jesus has blessed you with a rich spiritual legacy from your parents and grandparents. This is a legacy that you will continue and pass down to future generations.

Paul’s words to “fight the good fight” also come to my mind. I encourage you to fight for your marriage every day. Fight to keep Jesus first and your marriage relationship second. This is the foundation that your legacy will be built on. It is the example that your children and grandchildren will follow. A marriage built on a solid foundation in Christ will advance the Kingdom of Heaven in powerful ways!!

He has big plans for you!!

Fondren Engagement Session

Fondren Engagement Session

Anna Claire & Brett’s Fondren engagement session was a BLAST!! When the weather forecast showed rain, we began brainstorming indoor location. Once we talked about having their session at Brent’s Drugs, the location was set rain or shine!

I first met Anna Claire almost 10 years ago when her cousin was my roommate at We Will Go Ministries. Anna Claire’s mom and aunt were instrumental in helping our ministry start a children’s program, and Anna Claire was the sweetest young teen girl I ever met!

Fast forward to today, and I can’t believe she is old enough to be getting married!! We love Anna Claire and her family and I am so blessed to work with her and Brett during this special season of their lives!

How they met…

I asked Anna Claire how they met. “We actually met when we were kids! We went to the same home church and reconnected once we got older! It was very random but definitely the Lord’s set up!”

How he popped the question…

“We were planning to go out to eat for our two year anniversary, but he took me to the visitor’s center in Clinton instead. He told me that he wanted to show me something. Once we got there, he had a sweet sign and sunflowers everywhere! He had me read the board, which had scriptures verses, and when I turned around, he was on one knee. He told me he had another surprise for me and took me back to my house where all of our families were waiting for us! It was soooo sweet.”

Prayer

Anna Claire & Brett, I have prayed for you as I edited the images from your Fondren engagement session. As I see the genuine joy in your beautiful smiles, the verse that keeps coming to mind is “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Jesus said that in this world we will have trouble, but we can take heart! He has overcome the world! In life and in marriage you will face hard times. Always remember that you are a team. Jesus brought you together, and He will see you through each and every trial. Keep your eyes on Him, and always remember that the JOY of the LORD is your strength!!

I can’t wait to see you again in December as we celebrate you two becoming ONE!

Riverside Engagement Session in Memphis

Memphis Engagement Session

My time with Peyton & Ken Friday on Mud Island for their riverside engagement session in Memphis was so full of laughter my cheeks hurt on the drive home! The Word says that laughter is good medicine, and Friday was truly balm to my soul!

Peyton & Ken both live on Mud Island in Memphis, TN. Mud Island is a peaceful riverside community just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of downtown Memphis. We spent most of our time along the river, which has become a very special place for Peyton & Ken.

How God Brought Them Together

My newest Meridith Lee couple met at Mississippi State during their freshman year. They were in some of the same classes and even shared a chemistry book. He told Peyton that he liked liked her right before the summer as he was going off to camp with no way of contact except through letters! So this sweet couple wrote old fashioned letters to each other that summer and began officially dating when they returned to MSU in the fall.

How He Proposed

Peyton and Ken both recently moved to Memphis. He started his job there and she is starting school. Peyton continues, “My favorite thing to do is go on picnics. We have always gone on them since we have been together. We live on Mud Island that is surrounded by rivers where we like to go on walks. What I thought was just a normal picnic date night in one of our “spots” ended up being the BEST surprise ever! Ken is the best and I am usually the worst and try to figure out surprises, but he kept this one from me which made it so so special!! He put in so much thought to our engagement and planned a surprise party with all of our families! It was the most special day that I will treasure forever.”

My Prayer For You

Peyton & Ken, I have prayed for you as I have edited the images from your Riverside Engagement Session in Memphis. The word that keeps coming to my mind is “encourager”. You are two of the most encouraging people I have ever met! This is truly a gift that the Lord will use to advance His Kingdom! Hard times WILL come. Jesus said, “in the world you WILL have trouble. Take heart, I have overcome the world.” Your gift of encouragement will help both you and those around you get through the hard times. It will even help you to see God’s hand at work in the midst of the hard.

Holy Spirit, continue to fill Peyton & Ken with joy and strength as they move forward into all You are calling them to! I ask you to surround them with like minded community as they look for a new church body to join in Memphis. Give them peace and wisdom and they begin their life together, knowing that you are guiding their steps. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

My time with you was such an encouragement for me! And your prayers have greatly blessed me!! I can’t wait to see you both again at Fairview Inn in March!!

Aren & Wesley | Town of Livingston Engagement

Chapel of Livingston Mississippi Engagement Session

I am so excited to share another ML&Co Associate Photographer engagement session! I am absolutely loving growing my associate photographer team and seeing the girls that I am training produce amazing work!! Whitney captured Aren & Wesley’s love and joy so perfectly at their Town of Livingston engagement session!

I asked Aren how she & Wesley met:

We met in Starkville, MS at a BYX party my freshman year. He says that’s when we first meet, but I only vaguely remember playing cards with him and a few other friends that night. So, I say we meet about a year and a half later when a group of friends started hanging out the summer before my Junior year of college. We basically re-met and started dating a month or so later. I always wanted to be a friend with the guy I would marry first and thats exactly what happened and I feel closer to him because of that. I don think he really thought about it much. HAHA. However, he did say he remembered the day he knew he wanted to ask me out and I was surprised he even noticed me back then.

And how did he pop the question?

Her took me to my favorite restaurant in Starkville, MS, which was Restaurant Tyler. Our friend was our waiter and even though I didn’t know it at the time, she cam in to work just to serve us our dinner. could tell he was acting weird towards the end of dinner, but I didn’t think to much of it. As we talked out of the restaurant door, I started to hear soft music playing down the street, but couldn’t see anything. We started walking down the street and he all of a sudden put our to go food down and kind of placed me in front of one of the antique store fronts. He got down on one knee and said a bible verse that I can’t quite ever remember, and presented the ring. The box even lit up! I said yes even though he says he didn’t hear me the first time. We then went a little further down the street and a group of my friends were playin 4th trumpet, bass, and keyboard and we dance in the streets. He even had a surprise engagement party ready at his house afterwards.

I have prayed as I edited your images…

Aren & Wesley, I have prayed over you and your marriage as I edited the images from your Town of Livingston engagement session. The word that kept coming to my mind as I prayed was “uncompromising purity”. The Lord is setting you and your marriage apart as a testimony to the goodness of walking in His ways. Focus on holiness and purity in every aspect of your lives and His light will shine so brightly through you both that many will be drawn into the Kingdom through your love for one another!

I hope you love the images from your session as much as I do!!

Natchez Trace Engagement Session

Natchez Trace Engagement

Amanda & Asa’s Natchez Trace engagement session was an absolute dream to capture!

After just one Zoom meeting and an engagement session, I am so thankful to call Amanda & Asa friends. Getting to know this sweet couple and their story. Finding so many connecting points. It has truly been a dream! They are even sweeter than they are beautiful. When they walked up, I could feel the atmosphere shift as I was overwhelmed by the JOY of the Lord that they carry!

How they met…

Asa and I met in college. We were in the same English class and were COMPLETE opposites. He sat in the back and I sat up front. He was the class clown and I was quiet. He loved answering questions while I was fine just listening to everyone else answer out loud.

After the class ended we lost touch. Then in summer of 2017 he sent me a message just asking how my summer was going. From that one message we started talking everyday.

Once school started back in August, we met up at Cups for a “quick conversation”. We talked for 3 hours that day and could have easily kept going, but it started to rain on us. A few weeks and a couple dates later he officially asked me to be his girlfriend and it has been a dream ever since!

How he proposed…

I had just started working as a nurse and I was stressed all the time! He had decided that what I needed was a nice dinner date just the two of us. He told me to get dresses up and he would take me to my favorite restaurant, anywhere that has carbs lol.

After getting ready and hopping in the car he said we should stop by Mississippi College just to see how much it has changed since we graduated. I, of course, am a sentimental person and was all aboard.

We parked and sat on the swings where he asked me to be his girlfriend and we talked about adult life, our college lives and what we thought the future would hold. As we got up to leave, he bent down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was the easiest yes of my life.

Prayer

Amanda & Asa, Lee & I have enjoyed praying for you from the day you inquired! As I have already told you, as Lee was praying the morning of our Zoom meeting, He felt the Lord impress on him that we would have a Holy Spirit connection! While the Lord has already used you to encourage me and confirm some next steps for me, I am super excited to see what else He has in store for our friendship!

As I have prayed for you I keep sensing the word STRONG. Specifically the words of Paul in Ephesians 6:10 come to mind. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.” The Lord is giving you great strength that will grow even stronger as you grow in unity with Jesus and one another.

In this passage, Paul goes on to say, “put on the full armor of God, so that you will able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” Jesus said that in this word we will have trouble, but take heart! He has overcome the world! And He gives us everything we need to walk hand-in-hand with Him in victory!

The strength that He is building in you, He will use to strengthen other around you. I see people coming to you discouraged by overwhelming problems, and Jesus flowing His strength through you so that the one who was discouraged leave not only encouraged, but also empowered!

He has mighty plans for you and your marriage!
