Have you ever met someone and knew instantly that they were your kind of people? That’s how I felt when I met Allison and Chris for our portrait session on Tuesday! It was clear from the first moment I met them that these were two fun-loving people who were passionate about one another! Laid back, easy going and full of laughter, Allison and Chris braved the cold to meet me at the Town of Livingston near Flora, MS to capture these joy-filled images! As we walked around this small town and talked about the different paths life has taken us, we found so many points of intersection between my life and theirs! Not only do they know my bonus daughter Taylor, but Chris was an attorney at my uncle’s law firm and worked with my step-brother! Seriously, we had the BEST time!

Allison and Chris, as I have edited your images I have prayed over you both. The scriptures the Lord has given me for you is from Proverbs 15:15, “the cheerful heart has a continual feast” and from Proverbs 17:22, “a cheerful heart is good medicine.” Your laughter was certainly good medicine for me on a cold winter Tuesday and I am so thankful for our time together!!

 

The Gregory Family | A Downtown Jackson Family Session

Meet the Gregory family. A joyful, fun-loving, Jesus filled family that I had a BLAST spending time with recently!

The Gregory kids gave Ms. Karen a family session for Christmas. With a very active family of seven, we had to overcome some scheduling conflicts to make this family session happen… and I’m so thankful that Mr. Todd was such a trooper and didn’t allow his ankle surgery and cast stop us!

I first met Ms. Karen and oldest daughter Lauren when I was a missionary in downtown Jackson at We Will Go Ministries. In fact, the Lord spoke Isaiah 26:3 to me through Lauren just before I moved to the Middle East. “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.”  This is a Word the Lord knew I would need as I faced so many challenges in the years to come. I met second born Rebecca this past fall when she became one of my 2019 #meridithleebrides !! I loved every second of my time with her and fiance Adam in December at their engagement session and I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in May!

The Gregorys chose Downtown Jackson for their session, and I am loving the urban feel of their images! We spent time on the corner of Capitol and Congress Streets, as well as just down the street at the Mississippi State Capitol. I especially love the shots in front of the white brick wall around the Govenor’s Mansion!

Karen and Todd, as I spent time with you and your amazing kids, the Lord kept bringing Psalm 127:3-5 to my mind. “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” You have raised up your children in the way they should go, and now as you begin to release your arrows out of your nest and into the world I feel the Lord saying to trust Him to continue to build their lives on the firm spiritual foundation He laid for each of them. Oh what a beautiful heritage the Lord has given you in Lauren, Rebecca, Alyssa, Noah and McKenna!

5 Things You Should Trust To Your Wedding Photographer

Trust is the key ingredient to any relationship and this is true for the relationship you have with your wedding photographer. There’s a reason you chose them to capture the most important day of your life. While you may have a vision of how you want some of your images to turn out, for the most part, you are going to have to put a lot of trust in your photographer. Trusting your photographer a little more in these main areas will not only result in better images for you to remember your big day by but will also relieve you of some stress as well.

1. Choosing the Location of the Shot

You wedding photographer will have taken the time to familiarize themselves with your reception location or areas around your ceremony site to find the best places to photograph. They’ll know where gets the best light and where the best scenery is.

2. Time of Day to Shoot

Lighting is key to creating beautiful images and using the natural light of the sun will produce the best lighting setting but that doesn’t mean any time of the day will give you the same results. Your photographer will know what time of day will be best to take those gorgeous outdoor shots that won’t leave harsh shadows on your face or when to sneak outside to take some night inspired shots.

3. Poses

Trust your photographer to know what pose is the most flattering for you. They can see how the light is illuminating you and what is in the background. While some photographers will take into consideration your picture ideas, you shouldn’t be offended if they shoot down your ideas. Most times you’ll be working with limited time and light and you don’t want to waste much of either on your big day.

4. Editing Your Photos

Trust your photographer’s creative eye during the editing process. They will know which images will look best in black and white or color, and how best to crop each image. The editing process is a part of their style and this is one of the reasons you hired them. Trust them to use their skills to make each image stunning.

5. Handling Printing Your Photos

Your photographer knows where to get prints made and probably has a long-term relationship with a reputable printing company. The worst thing you can do is have a stunning image, order a large print and find the colors are off, the image is blurred or it simply looks dull. Knowing where to get your prints made, what size they should be done in and which ones will look best in your albums, wall art or thank you cards is part of the package you get when you hired a professional photographer. Trust them and listen to what they think will look best for what you want.

The name Preston means “a priest’s village” or “a spiritual place.” Preston, the Lord gave you this name as a prophetic calling. He has called you not only as a son, but as a priest whom the Holy Spirit indwells and speaks through. He is growing in you a prophetic voice that will call many into the Kingdom of Heaven! Preston, you are a mighty man of God with a rich spiritual heritage! Your parents have worked hard to raise you in the way you should go, and you will not depart from it!

Preston, it was an honor to spend time with you as we captured these memories for you and your family. I pray that as you embark on this new season of life, that you will always remember your heritage, and that you will always stay true to who He created you to be.

Hannah Alford | Senior Portraits

Getting to photograph senior portraits for a fellow missionary?? YES PLEASE!! Hannah was referred to me by our mutual missionary friend and I am SO THANKFUL!!

Hannah is such an encouragement to be around! This girl is confident in her identity in Christ and imparts that to those she is around! She is full of the Joy of the Lord and radiates His love so well!! Can’t you just see Him shinning through here even in these images?

He has such good plans for you!! I see you taking your college campus by FIRE of REVIVAL! The fire in you is not meant to be kept in, let it out and you will start wild fires of revival that can not be contained! When the enemy comes to attack, just laugh in his face because the JOY of the LORD is your STRENGTH!!

Marilyn and Will | A Downtown Jackson Engagement Session

It was fall semester of 2014 when Marilyn and Will first met in a College Algebra class at Hinds CC. He was a freshman, she a high school senior dual enrolled to get a jump start on college. Just before the final exam He slipped her his phone number, which led to their first date on January 6, 2015 (which was a special day for me as I celebrated my 38th birthday just five days before marrying the man God chose for me)!

I love getting to know my clients, hearing their love stories and how God brought them together. It is always such a special treat when I can also get to know about their walk with Christ and the hope they have in Him for their marriage, relationship and future! Marilyn and Will encouraged me so much as we got to spend time together last week capturing this beautiful engagement season for them! The love these two have for one another bubbles over into so much laughter… which made for so many amazing images! Marilyn and Will are advancing the Kingdom full force by attacking the enemy with JOY and LAUGHTER!!

An engagement season is a time of transition, of walking through change. One of my favorite things about my job is being able to pray and support my brides and grooms through this season. Will, as I pray for you I feel so much excitement from the Lord about what He has planned for you in the new job you are starting tomorrow! I feel He has special assignments for you there. People who need more than your skills and education, but they need to hear YOUR story of how Jesus has changed your life. I also see that as you faithfully serve in your new job that you will grow in favor with the men and women you will work with. They will be drawn to you because of your integrity and the Lord will use this as an open door for you to share Him with them.

Marilyn, as you step into this last semester of college I am specifically praying for strength and endurance. The skills you are learning now will carry you forward into medical school, but there are also relationships with classmates that the Lord is calling you to go deeper with. I feel like the Lord has two specific girls that He wants to use you to bring them to salvation in Him. He is asking you to BE BOLD in sharing your story!

The Thompson Family

One of the most fun parts of my job is reconnecting with friends from years gone by. I was so excited when Ms. Connie contacted me about taking some family portraits! Reconnecting with this family that I knew during my growing up days at St. Mark’s UMC was so special!! I especially remember my season as the interim youth pastor while Kevin and Carter were both in my youth group! They have grown into fine young men with families of their own, and Ms. Connie and Mr. David are proud grandparents of these three beautiful grandkids.

It has been such an honor to not only capture these memories for you, but also to pray over each of you as I edit. And it has been such a pleasure to reconnect and have some time to catch up with each of you! Many blessings, Thompson Family!

Mr. and Mrs. Holland | A Christ Centered Wedding at The Chapel at Livingston

Joy and Jonathan’s wedding was a beautiful, Christ glorifying day at The Chapel at Livingston where family and friends came together to celebrate the love these two have for one another. Every detail of the day was simply perfect. As I captured my last wedding of 2018, my heart was encouraged as I recognized threads of the Gospel of Christ beautifully woven though each and every detail of the day. Both the Marble and Holland families overflowed with love and joy as they came together in this special day of celebration! It was such an honor to capture these special memories for these special families.

Throughout the day I got to hear even more stories about how Joy and Jonathan met. I knew the story about her friend yelling Jonathan’s name across the quad and pushing Joy to ask him to her Mississippi College social tribe’s dance. But I did not know that on their first date Jonathan asked Joy to share her testimony, and she in return asked him to share his. Their relationship began with a foundation on the solid rock of Jesus Christ, and I know their marriage will continue to build on that same foundation.

During their first look, Joy and Jonathan exchanged special gifts. Joy’s gift to Jonathan included not only a Taylor guitar engraved with Ephesians 5:19, “Sing, make music in your heart to the Lord.” but she also gave him a beautiful journal where she had been writing out prayers for him and their marriage during the 40 days leading up to their wedding. After exchanging gifts they sat together on the dock and sang their first worship song to the Lord. I know this special guitar will be a cherished family heirloom used to teach their children and grandchildren how to worship with their whole hearts.

In the photography world there is a lot of discussion about finding your ideal client. These discussions usually include a certain style or high-end look. For this missionary photographer, my ideal client really loves Jesus and chooses to put Him first. I am so honored to share a few of the beautiful images from my ideal client’s wedding day below.

Mr. and Mrs. Wildman | A Rainy Day Mississippi Wedding at The MSU Riley Center

As Dan & Ronit’s wedding day approached, we all watched the weather closely. Praying for the Lord to move the rain and provide a beautiful clear day for their Christmas themed backyard wedding. But His plans were different, and the Terrica of Southern Productions was able to contact all the vendors and move everything to the MSU Riley Center Grand Opera House. This wedding day’s vendor team went above and beyond to make Dan & Ronit’s wedding day every bit as beautiful and special as their original plans. The show must go on and Terrica and her team brought everything together beautifully!

Justin and Kristy McGuffee | Parham Bridges Park | Maternity Session

Pregnancy is such a special time in a woman’s life. It is a season where she has the privilege of partnering with the Creator of all things to bring new life into this world. I am amazed by God’s perfect design that allows a woman’s body to grow and sustain new life.

Justin and Kristy are preparing to welcome their second and third baby boys into their family. That’s right, there are two bouncing baby boys in that beautiful belly! Judah and Reuben will join big brother Asher in making this a family of FIVE!

Justin and Kristy, your love for Jesus is evident in how you love one another and share His love with those around you. Your boys are so blessed to have you as mommy and daddy. As I am editing your images I have prayed for your family. I feel such great anticipation for what Papa God has planned for your family! It is not by chance that your boys are named after the patriarchs of Israel, but they will inherit a spiritual heritage and legacy to match their names. The Lord will use each of them to advance the Kingdom of Heaven in ways we can not imagine, and generations will be blessed through them.

Parenting is a crazy adventure of its own. Keep your eyes on Jesus and focus on Him, and he will lead and guide you through each and every step.

Psalm 139: 13-16

For You formed my innermost parts;
